Full KUP Life

A little bit about me and what I do!

Meet Karen

Hello! I’m Karen UP and I’m so grateful you’re here. Whoever you are and whatever brought you to check out my work, it’s an honor to have you receive my writings and I appreciate you for stopping by!

I’m a writer, creator of many forms, and an educator. I also like to wear the hats of organizer and activist and hold social justice and the building of Beloved Community as core values and guiding principles.

It is my greatest honor to be a daughter, sister, wife, and mother to the incredible humans I am blessed to call my family. They touch my heart deeper than any experience and our stories inform much of my work.

My Work

I am called to create written, choreographed, performed, and visual arts motivated by a love of life, our beautiful Mother Earth, and all her creatures. My greatest joy comes from sharing my art in collaboration, presentation, or education with others.

Full KUP Philosophy

Is the cup half full or half empty?
I've always thought this was a funny question and tried to stay in the positive mindset of cup half full.
As I've gotten older and experienced so much more as a working professional, wife, and mother, I've shifted my personal philosophy on this question to say that my cup is always full.
It might be full of all good stuff - yay! More often than not, it's a mixed drink. Full of a lot of good and a few splashes of yuck that leave me wondering, "Who thought this would be a good addition to an otherwise lovely glass of sunshine?" Somedays, I get a cup full of rotten liquid that no one should be drinking but maybe, just maybe, there's a drip of something sweet that reminds me there are better beverages down the road.
Whatever the cup is full of though, it's full. It's full and I know I've got to drink every drop.
Join me on the sweet days, on the sour days, and for all the mixed days in between!
